Trading Central and TMX Datalinx Convene North American Brokerage Leaders in Toronto to Chart the Next Era of AI-Driven Retail Investing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Ottawa, November 2, 2026 — Trading Central, a financial market research and intelligence provider for brokers and financial institutions around the globe, and TMX Datalinx, TMX Group's information services division, hosted the TMX Datalinx & Trading Central Summit in Toronto on October 20.
The invitation-only afternoon, themed "Empowering the Modern Investor: Next-Gen Technology & Evolving Retail Dynamics," brought together nearly 140 leaders from more than 40 Canadian banks, online brokerages and fintechs. Discussion centered on how platforms can use responsible AI tools, advanced data infrastructure and alternative datasets to drive user engagement, maximize platform stickiness and scale client acquisition.
Following welcome remarks from Michelle Tran, President of TMX Datalinx, Michael Ellison, President of Corporate Insight, delivered the keynote on AI in retail investing, drawing on Corporate Insight's 2026 report, "AI in Financial Services Today: The Opportunity, the Risk and the Emerging Reality."
The first panel, "The Evolving Retail Persona: What Today's Investors Demand & How to Keep Them Engaged," looked at who today's retail investors are, what they expect from their platforms, and how brokers can keep them engaged. The discussion was moderated by Robert Tasca, Managing Director, Derivatives Products and Services at the Montréal Exchange, with Tara Kennedy, VP & COO of Wealthsimple Investments Inc.; Devon Lacombe, Managing Director and Head of Scotia iTRADE at Scotiabank; and Maxwell Nicholson, CEO of Blossom Social.
The second panel, "Empowering the Modern Investor: Leveraging AI, Backtesting, and MCP for Next-Gen Trading," explored how AI is reshaping the investing experience and the data, infrastructure and guardrails brokers need to deliver it. This session was moderated by Max Magee, Principal, Research Operations / Generative AI at VerityData, with Michael Constantino, CEO of Webull Securities (Canada) Ltd.; Steve Sosnick, Chief Strategist at Interactive Brokers; Emil Noordeh, Head of AI for Digital Investing at Bank of Montreal; and Luca De Blasis, Head of Product, Invest & Trade at Questrade.
Two Innovation Spotlights rounded out the program. Gavin Morris, Vice President, Proprietary Data & Infrastructure at TMX Group, introduced TMX PredictivePulse, TMX Datalinx's real-time prediction market data. Gary Christie, General Manager of Trading Central Canada & Head of North America Research at Trading Central, presented the Trading Central MCP Server, which grounds brokers' AI in trusted research through 57 purpose-built tools across eight research areas, from technicals, news and sentiment, and fundamentals to economics, options and corporate events.
The afternoon concluded with closing notes from Peter Conroy, CEO of Global Insights, TMX Group, followed by the Closing Bell and a reception with product demos from Trading Central, TMX Datalinx and event sponsor QuoteMedia.
A few highlights from the afternoon:
- Trust in AI hasn’t caught up to adoption. Three in four investors already use AI, but most read their provider’s AI as cost-cutting, not better service.
- Investors want to stay in the driver’s seat. Only 8% would let AI place a trade on its own. The pattern across every panel: AI does the work, the client makes the call.
- The edge isn’t the model, it’s the data behind it. As general-purpose AI becomes commoditized, what differentiates a platform is the harness and the inputs it’s built on.
